Understand Our Policy for Recognizing Individual Students in Our News
You may have noticed that we don't include student names when we recognize achievements in our web and e-news. There's several reasons why:
- First, state law protects the privacy of our students, even when we're cheering for them. Publishing their names, images, and achievements requires written permission.
- We are blessed with hundreds of hard-working students who collectively win hundreds of awards each year. It just isn't possible for us to track everyone's achievements at Newport and in our community. To ensure fairness, we don't want to miss anyone.
- Recognizing these awards can lead our students and families to forget that the path to greatness is continuous small steps of growth. We want our students to focus on a little better every week. It's that lifetime commitment that will keep the accolades coming throughout their careers.
- We DO write about what has been achieved because we want students and families to know about all the opportunities that are within Knights' grasp.
