Continue These Conversations at Home to Ensure Students Feel Safe & Supported
Today (Sept 26), we held a school-wide lesson focused on fostering an inclusive, respectful community. The goal was to ensure students feel safe and supported while equipping them with tools to recognize and respond to harassment, intimidation, and bullying (HIB). Students were reminded that they can report concerns using our HIB Reporting Form.
During the lesson, students learned about:
- What HIB is and the types of behaviors it includes
- The three official ways to report and how to complete the reporting form
- How consent, boundaries, and respect support healthy peer relationships
Students also practiced identifying harmful behaviors through real-life scenarios and explored effective ways to respond, building critical thinking skills and a stronger sense of belonging.
You can continue these conversations at home by:
- Asking about HIB: “What’s one new thing you learned about harassment, intimidation, and bullying today?”
- Reinforcing consent and boundaries: Talk about how your student sets and respects personal and online boundaries.
- Promoting community: Brainstorm together how they can help peers feel welcome and included.
It’s important to note that much of today’s HIB occurs online. Families play a key role in knowing which platforms their children use and in helping them navigate digital spaces safely.
